Scrabble Front Frequently Asked Questions

Do you need help downloading, installing, or using one of the Scrabble-themed fonts? No problem -- you've come to the right place. Hopefully these answers will get you on your way. If your question is not answered here, feel free to direct any further font questions to osuscrabble(at)gmail.com.

How do I download the font?
To download one of the fonts, right click link and choose "Save Target As..." from the right-click menu. Choose a location to save the .zip file to -- we suggest somewhere easy to find, like your Desktop or My Documents.

How do I install the font?
To install the font, simply extract the True Type Font file (.ttf) into your computer's "Fonts" folder. This folder will most likely be located at "C:\Windows\Fonts". You can either extract the file there directly using a program like WinZip, or simply cut and paste it there yourself. Once the .ttf file is in your Windows Fonts folder, it has been installed and can be used in oridnary applications like MS Word.

To use Windows XP's built-in zip extraction wizard, follow these steps:
Step 1: Right-click on the .zip file and choose "Extract All..." from the right-click menu. This will load the Extraction Wizard and allow you to unzip the file. Click "Next >" on the introduction page.
Step 2: On the second page of the wizard, you will be asked to "Select a Destination". Use the Browse button to browse to your Windows Fonts folder, or type the path in directly. This folder will virtually always be located at "C:\WINDOWS\Fonts", so if you don't know how to find it, you'll probably be safe just typing that in. Click the "Next >" button.
Step 3: At this point, Windows will automatically install the font file onto your computer. You will probably see a progress bar for a short period of time, and the wizard will automatically take you to the final page.
Step 4: On the final page, un-check the "Show extracted files" checkbox, since you do not need to load the .ttf file. Click the "Finish" button, and you're done.

Where can I use my new font?
Once you have installed the font on your computer, you can use the font to type in any program that supports True Type Fonts. This includes programs like Microsoft Word or Adobe Photoshop. In general, if the program allows you to change what font you're typing in, you will now be able to use the Scrabble font in that program.

Can I use the font on-line, in e-mails, on websites, or in AIM?
Unfortunately, fonts don't quite work like that.
Email: Most email providers that allow you to change the font (like gmail, Hotmail, Yahoo) typically only allow you to choose from a limited list of standard fonts. Your new Scrabble font will not show up in that list, as the email service is in control of choosing which fonts appear there.
Websites: A font will only show up correctly on a website if you have that specific font installed on your computer. Since most people do not have these Scrabble fonts installed, most people will not be able to see the font if you use it on a website. In general, when a website uses a font that your computer doesn't have installed, your computer will display the text in the system default font, which is typically Times New Roman. In other words, if you try to use these Scrabble fonts on a website, most people will just see the text in regular letters.
AIM/MSN/Yahoo: Just like with websites, your friends will only be able to see your Scrabble font if they also have the font installed on their computers as well. If they do not have the font installed, your text will simply display in Times New Roman. However, feel free to tell your friends to install the font as well, so you two can converse in your fun new Scrabble font!
